Debriefing: July 2010 – Expanding the Borders Edition

Well, July has come and gone and it still feels like just yesterday that I launched Riskology.co to the world.

Things have been moving fast around here. In fact, only two months in, there are already well over 1,000 riskologists (that’s you!) subscribed to the site and many, many more reading on a regular basis.

I couldn’t be happier to have you around. I know we’re going to achieve some cool things together.

Every new month we’ll look back at the last one and do a little debriefing about what’s happened around Riskology.co. If you’ve missed anything, this is great place to catch up.

From the Blog

In July, I wrote about when to gamble and when to invest, revealed the 5th pillar of awesome risk-taking, talked about adults in cradles, and had a nice chat with Everett Bogue about minimalist businesses.

Also, I talked about why the “best” negotiators never win, exposed a productivity myth that you can safely ignore, started down the road to Kilimanjaro, and issued a warning about your perfect life.

Then, things really heated up when I gave a simple tutorial for adding 8.2 years and $133,369 to your life.

Incoming!

I had a lot of fun with the articles in July but, of course, I plan to make August even better. Here’s what you can expect to see throughout the month:

  • The truth about luck and who gets to experience it (hint: It doesn’t actually matter)
  • An in depth explanation of why quitting might be the best idea you’ve ever had (or the worst…).
  • A warning about “good advice” and why you should never listen to it

I should also mention that my better than free guide to help you quit your job is done. It’s officially titled Take This Job & Shove It, and it’s more than 10,000 words dedicated to helping you set up and fund what I like to call a F*** You Fund (hat tip to Naomi Dunford) to tide you over while you make the transition to more meaningful work.

I say it’s “better than free” because I decided that “completely free” just wasn’t going to cut it. So, rather than just creating a free e-book and video tutorial, I decided to buddy up with a few partners that will get your F*** You Fund started with $100 (at no cost to you).

That’s right. It’s better than free because I’m actually going to pay you $100 to read it. The official launch date is Tuesday, August 17, and I hope you’ll stop by to pick up your better than free copy.

How You Can Get Involved

I feel so stinkin’ lucky just to be able to write at Riskology.co for you, and even more lucky that a lot of you have written in wondering how you can help spread the word. So thanks!

Here are the best ways to make Riskology.co an even better place for even more people:

Leave a comment on an article that you have an opinion about. I try to ask a question for you to answer at the end of each piece because I firmly believe that you can learn more from a blog’s readers than you can from the writer.

Sign up for email updates to get my 5 Risks That Made History email series or subscribe via RSS so that you don’t miss an article that could help you or someone you know.

Share an article with your friends on Twitter, Facebook or any other site you hang out at. If you use a bookmarking site like StumbleUpon or Digg, submit any article you like there.

Hook up with me on Twitter and Facebook to share ideas.

Or, of course, you could do whatever else you want to spread the message. There are no rules because that’s kind of the whole point around here.

Over and out,

*****
