Increase Your Gratitude With The 5-Minute Thanksgiving Day Challenge

Fellow Riskologist,

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m about to go offline until Monday to spend some quality time with my family and friends while stuffing myself full of cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

Before I do, though, I want to issue you a little challenge…

This morning, I checked in on Facebook (like you do), and one of my friends had asked a question:

How many things can you come up with that you’re thankful for in the next five minutes?

A lot of people answered, and it was inspiring to read.

As I got ready for my morning run, I thought to myself: “I’m going to take this challenge!”

I had a lot more than five minutes to come up with answers, but as I ran around the neighborhood looking at the changing fall colors and saying good morning to people out for their Thanksgiving Day walks, I tried to list out each thing I have to be thankful for in my life.

The list was long—and I certainly missed some things—but here are a few of my favorites. I’m thankful for:

  • My family that are (mostly) close in proximity and I can see any time I want to.
  • My girlfriend who inspires me to be a better person every day.
  • My health that allows me to take advantage of all life has to offer.
  • Frequent flyer miles that send me all over the world for free!
  • The freedom I enjoy in the lifestyle I’ve chosen.

And, of course, I’m thankful for you and all the readers here that make Riskology.co such a wonderful and supportive community.

Turns out, I have a fantastic life with a lot to be grateful for! And taking a few minutes to list it all out made me really happy. In fact, I can’t wait to do it again. I think I’ll make this five-minute routine something I do at least once a week.

So, if you want to perk your day up and increase the gratitude in your own life, I want to issue the same challenge to you:

Take five minutes now, and make a list of everything in your life you’re thankful for.

If you like, share your list in the comments below to inspire others making their own.

Happy Thanksgiving. Wherever you are in the world, I hope you have a lot to be thankful for.

Yours in gratitude,
